Who cares about the new pope. I still expect that the Catholic church and the pope will be noted as #epicfail once my two year old son will turn 18. Not only is this new pope is against gay marriage, abortion and contraception, but he also claimed gay adoption is a form of discrimination of children. Anyway, nothing new here. These old men cluttered in the Vatican will never, never change and reform the religion.

Perhaps the Vatican should read Sheryl Sandberg’s new book Lean In; Women, Work and the will to lead. When reading the New Testament Jezus spoke already publicly against the social norm of women at that time and tried to change it. Many women played a very important role in his life. A professor Kenneth E. Bailey found evidence in the New Testament pages that Jezus even had female disciples!

Most prominent is of course the hooker Mary Magdalene. We all learned Mary Magdalene was a hooker. How convenient! It is not correct. For centuries Mary Magdalene had been incorrectly identified in Western Christianity as an adulteress and repentant prostitute. But the New Testament does not identify her as such. Discoveries of new texts and critical insight have now proven that portrait of Mary is entirely inaccurate. According to Harvard theologian Dr. Karen King, Mary Magdalene was a prominent disciple and leader of one wing of the early Christian movement that promoted women’s leadership.

So Vatican: here you go! Lean in. Move over.
